FlavrQ How-to: Get the Best Flavor with FlavrQ!

Get Real Charcoal Flavor from Your Gas Grill

Gas grills are fast and convenient—but they don't deliver the rich, wood-fired flavor that makes great barbecue unforgettable.

That's where the FlavrQ Grilling System Starter Kit comes in. With the stainless steel FlavrQ Grid and 100% natural Canadian sugar maple Charcoal Chips™, you get the searing heat and smoky flavor of charcoal using your existing gas grill.

Here's how to get the best results.

1. Set Up Your Grill

Installation takes just a few minutes—no tools required.

  • Remove any old lava rocks or ceramic briquettes.

  • Place the FlavrQ Grid on top of your grill's flame tamers.

  • Put your cooking grates back in place.

Leave the grid installed permanently—it also helps distribute heat more evenly during everyday grilling.

2. Use the Right Amount of Chips

A little goes a long way.

  • Use 4–6 oz of FlavrQ Charcoal Chips for most cooks.

  • Sprinkle the chips only under the food you're cooking.

  • Aim for a layer about ½–¾ inch deep.

This concentrates heat where you need it most, creating hotter searing temperatures and more smoky flavor.

3. Wait for the Smoke

Don't rush it.

Turn your burners to High and wait until the chips are glowing red and producing a steady stream of smoke before adding food. That's when the real flavor starts.

4. Keep the Lid Closed

Every time you open the lid, heat and smoke escape.

Keep it closed as much as possible, opening only to flip food or check doneness. More smoke staying in the grill means more flavor ending up on your food.

Want Even More Charcoal Flavor?

For maximum results:

  • Create grilling zones—sear over the chips, then finish over indirect heat.

  • Keep your burners on High so the chips continue producing smoke.

  • Start with cold meat straight from the refrigerator; smoke clings better to cool surfaces.

Avoid These Common Mistakes

  • Don't use lighter fluid. Your gas burners ignite the chips.

  • Only use FlavrQ Charcoal Chips™. Pellets, lump charcoal, and briquettes aren't designed for the system.

  • Wait until everything is cool before cleaning. The chips produce very little ash, so cleanup is quick.

Fire It Up

For the best FlavrQ experience, remember three things:

  • Use 4–6 oz of chips.

  • Wait for steady smoke.

  • Keep the lid closed.

Follow those simple steps and you'll get the deep charcoal flavor and high-heat sear your gas grill has been missing.
